Black Heart: Reunion
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
An action-platformer game with fast paced combat, pixel art and a focus on parallax layers.
Combat:
Combat is melee based taking inspiration from the Mega Man Zero series. With the player constantly dashing and jumping around the map in order to find the perfect position to engage enemies.
The game features a basic 3 hit combo. However, it also includes extra moves that can be string together in order to create bigger combos to deal massive damage or to defeat many enemies in succession.
For now only 4 extra attacks are in the game but i have plans to add a lot more in the future.
Movement:
There are 2 ways to move in this game. First is the dash that can be performed when the player is in the ground with doubles your speed and allows you to jump farther the usual.
The second method is simply walking. While this may seen like a disadvantage at first it actually allows you to not only better control your jumps but also double jump as well.
Most gaps in the game can be cleared by simply dash and jumping with few requiring you to ever double jump and some even being impossible while doing it. This way double jumping is more of a tool for combat then platforming.
Development and future:
Black heart: reunion has been in development for more then 2 years now as a solo dev. Only occasionally taking feedback from friends and family. All assets in game where made by me alone with the exceptions being a few lines of code and the game font.
and only has it been shown to the public.
As it says in game it is still merely a pre-alpha. The reason why i decided to call it that instead of just a regular alpha is because its missing 3 key features:
1 Level progression:
The game as is lacks any type of progression and is merely a level select screen showing the first 4 levels. In later updates i plan on adding a hub world and making it have a similar progression to Mega Man Zero / Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, That is, You have a hub world to explore and talk to NPC's and can chose what level you want to play at your own volition.
2 Story and dialogue:
currently the game has neither. In the future i will add not only NPC's as ive said above but also dialogue during the stages and cut scenes fleshing out more of the world and the lore. i have a story planed but it still has yet to be implemented.
3 Music and sound effects:
that is the main reason why i have decided to call this a pre-alpha instead of just an alpha as the game lacks sound effects of any kind. my first planned update will add sound effects and i expect the game to have some kind of soundtrack sometime after it.
More things:
Some of the animations and sprites in the game are currently unfinished and are either just needing some more animation frames or lack an animation entirely. i plan to have all this finished before the game enters the alpha stage.
